Storage and Proper Usage
Storing Lip Balm & Gloss
-
DO store products in an upright position. This prevents glosses from leaking into the cap and helps balms maintain their shape.
-
DO keep them at a consistent room temperature (59°F to 77°F). You can store balms in the fridge during the summer to prevent them from melting, but it is not strictly necessary.
-
DO keep your products organized using clear acrylic bins or drawers so you can see expiration dates easily.
-
DON'T store them in the bathroom. The high humidity and steam create a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.
-
DON'T leave your lip products in a hot car. High temperatures cause the oils and waxes in balms and glosses to separate, melting the formula.
-
DON'T expose them to direct sunlight. UV rays degrade the pigments and active ingredients (like SPF) in your products.
Using Lip Balm & Gloss
-
DO wash your hands before dipping your fingers into potted balms to avoid introducing bacteria.
-
DO clean your wand applicators regularly. Use a cotton swab lightly dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the tip of the wand and the bottleneck.
-
DO blot your lips or wipe off excess food or foundation from your lips before applying gloss to keep the tube clean.
-
DON'T "pump" your lip gloss wand in and out of the tube. This pushes excess air into the formula, causing it to dry out and oxidize much faster.
-
DON'T share your lip products. Sharing applicators easily transfers bacteria and cold sores from person to person.
-
DON'T use expired products. Check the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on the packaging. Generally, lip glosses last 6-12 months, while lip balms last 12-24 months.
